Kampala Audiology and Speech Centre in partnership with IHK hospital and MEDEL performed two successful cochlear implant surgeries on Friday 27th August and Saturday 28th August 2021. The surgeries were performed at IHK hospital by visiting Surgeon Prof. Dr. Ahmed Mehanna, a Professor of Ontology and Cochlear Implant at Alexandria University in Egypt.
In an attempt to facilitate knowledge transfer from the Egyptian Professor, Dr. Luis Okema was present to assist in the procedings. Dr. Okema is the Head of department of Audiology at Gulu University and visiting surgeon at Kampala Audiology and Speech Centre.
The Kampala Audiology and Speech Centre team, together with the MEDEL and IHK teams held a press conference at IHK hospital on Saturday 28th August 2021.
This gives much hope. I got hearing loss 15 years ago but I have never known the cause despite several tests.
